Site history
Updated 13 October 2026
Repeated traffic floods disrupted PropagandaScope between August and October 2026. On 12 October, the old site was closed for a rebuild. The data were saved, and collection resumed on new machines.
This timeline records the outages and repairs. The records do not identify who was responsible. Times are in UTC.
20 August–3 September 2026
Unsuccessful intrusion attempts
Automated scans and login attempts ran throughout this period. No unknown login succeeded, and these attempts did not disrupt the site.
23–27 August 2026
Search traffic overwhelms the site
Search requests rose from a few dozen on a normal day to 19,706 on 26 August. The site was down until 03:20 on 27 August. Search limits, caching and network blocks were added that day.
27–28 August 2026
Two brief outages
Two floods of home-page requests each made the home page unavailable for about three minutes. Each flood involved more than 3,000 addresses.
31 August 2026
The protections hold
Another flood targeted search and the server directly. The site stayed available.
1 September 2026
A sustained search flood
Nearly 26,000 searches, mostly for random pairs of letters, left the site largely unusable for about seven hours. The traffic stopped that day.
11–23 September 2026
Search requests disrupt every page
Repeated searches for uncached terms caused errors across the site. The disruption was still recorded on 22 September. A fix tried on 23 September was withdrawn because it also blocked ordinary two-character searches.
9–12 October 2026
The old site closes
Requests for home-page data surged, and nearly all failed from 10 October. On 12 October, the old application was stopped and a full rebuild began.
12–13 October 2026
Data saved, collection resumed
The data and files were saved and checked before the old server was switched off. Collection resumed on new machines that night, and missing days were collected again. The new site is being prepared.
